PROFILE
FIKMAN is a simple man, currently 21 years old and studying for his Degree in Marketing while trying to achieve his potential as a well-rounded artist. He started to rap from the age of 14, imitating rhyme schemes from the likes of Eminem, Tech N9ne, Busta Rhymes, and other rap songs that he can get his hands on. At the age of 19, he began to take rapping seriously. He started laying down lyrics accompanied by royalty free tracks readily available on Youtube. As a passionate artist, FIKMAN reached out to local artists and producers, in hopes of a collaboration or a feature. In the end, he decided to start producing his own beats using Fruity Loops, a digital audio workstation (DAW).
“The quiet boy who is always excited”, according to some of his friends, often mentions the term “mamak” in his songs. “Mamak” refers to the Indian-Muslim restaurants popular in Malaysia, and are often open-air food establishments, primarily found in Southeast Asia. “I feel like home whenever I hang with my relatives or friends at the mamak” said Fikri, “cause even though no one knows each other there, like; you can be from any race any religion heck you can be from outer space but once you sit in the mamak stall, you’re family. We would hang till late at night just talking about anything and we can still order an iced tea and enjoy the cold air, which is very rare in Malaysia.” Fikri continued, “I mention it a lot because I can relate to the feeling of being in the same space with people of different backgrounds, race and religion cause it has always been a sensitive issue in the country; and it’s not something I want to just turn a blind eye to. So, by rapping about it I hope the listeners can relate to that feeling too.”
